Tommy Brown

This early indie rock artist started out as the head of a backup band for Gene Summers, but went on his own with a short series of instrumental recordings that were original and catchy enough to be programmed into a variety of compilation releases. Brown put out the material under a few different names, "Tom" as essential a part of each as an atom is a part of all life on earth. Tommy Brown, the Tom Toms and Tom Brown and The Tom Toms are all the same outfit. The 1960 "Corsicana" is certainly a beautiful piece of work; the group also recorded a version of "Kentucky Waltz", a "Tomahawk" with strong strains of surf music and musically decorated "The Den", a comfortable room for any listener to enter. ~ Eugene Chadbourne, Rovi
