Beyonce
, Michelle Williams and Rowland sold more records than any other previous troupe of singing sirens (and when you factor in artists such as TLC and The Supremes, you realize that's a lot of units). Rowland became mega-famous as a result, appearing in movies and branching out into a solo recording career. Her second album, Ms. Kelly, isn't going to harm her reputation, either; it's got lots of hooks and multiple guest stars -- Scott Storch, Eve and Snoop Dogg among them. We sat down to Rowland to find out where she's been and where she'd like to go. Wherever that is, she'll have the footgear to get her there. Girlfriend loves her shoes.

Name: Kelendria Trene Rowland

Born: February 11, 1981

First memory: Christmas -- I was around four years old, and I got a red rocking chair.

Biggest thrill as a child: Singing the theme song for the TV show Amen. My mother used to love for me to sing that. Every time the show came on, she would always call me into the room to sing it.

What was your nickname as a kid? Kelly-welly. My mom made it up. It rhymed.

Did you sit at the back or front of the class? I sat in the middle. I didn't want to be too much in the front or too much in the back.

First record bought: An album by Whitney Houston. It was her very first record.

First gig attended: It wasn't until I was older, when I was around 13 or 14 years old. It was a Janet Jackson concert, when she put out the album Janet. I cried after I left because I wanted that so bad in my life. I was like, "I want a big stage show with fire and lights and a lot of dancers!" I had gone with Beyonce, and we cried after we left because we wanted it so bad.

First date: I was around 15 years old. I was late. We went to the movies. That was it.

Last book read: My Bible.

Last movie seen: Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End. I loved it. I love where he's in the desert with the boat. That was just genius -- all the Johnny Depps on the boat.

Favorite sandwich: I love a turkey sandwich with American cheese and Monterey Jack jalapeno cheese, with Hellman's mayo, a little mustard, lettuce, tomato and turkey bacon. I make it myself. It's so good.

Favorite item of clothing: Shoes. I'm obsessed with shoes. I don't even know how many pairs I have anymore, that's how many shoes I have. I bought a pair just the other day. [I like] Giuseppe Zanotti right now.

Have you ever been starstruck?Yes, when I met Whitney Houston in 2001. I know that I'll also be starstruck when I meet Sade, because she's my favorite as well. I haven't met her yet, and I really want to. I love her.

Who is Your Most Famous Friend? Beyonce and Michelle [Williams] and Serena [Williams], I guess. Serena is a very close friend of mine, my best bud. She's going to be at the U.S. Open and I'm going to go.

Previous jobs: I was a babysitter.

Favorite time of day: Morning. It's a new start.

Hanging on my bedroom wall: A nice art piece I bought at a furniture store. It's very dark, gothic, with colors of wine and black and gold.

Ideal vacation: To take like 20 of my friends and family members and go to the Maldives or the Greek isles, and just chill or have a nice barbecue, play games, and travel on a boat.

Hobbies: I like to paint and play on my computer. I like to play with the pictures there.

Favorite Madonna record: Ray of Light. I love "Jump" and "Hung Up" and "Get Together" from her new record. "Get Together" has to be my favorite.

What's something that surprises people about you? What I get the most is people saying, "You really are cool!" I'm like, what were you expecting? Were you expecting me to be evil or something? But I'm like, at least I'm cool.

Swear word you use too much: None.

What television show are you obsessed with right now? Charm School on VH1. I'm not saying that just because it's you. I'm obsessed with that show. I haven't seen it in three weeks and I really need to get up to speed with what's going on. I need to know what happened! I need to know what happened to Boots!

If I could be any character from history: Rosa Parks. It took a lot of courage to do what she did, and that's amazing to me.
