Mickey Hart, guitarist Bob Weir and pianist Bruce Hornsby since the Dead disbanded in 1995.

"I am extremely excited to be playing music again with Bobby, Mickey, Bruce and the rest of the band," Kreutzmann said in a statement released Thursday (June 22). "I had listened to them talk about how great the last tour was, and I knew if they ever did it again that I would want to be right there alongside them."

The Other Ones, formed to tour on the Furthur Festival in 1998, went on hiatus in 1999 while bassist Phil Lesh recovered from liver transplant surgery. Lesh, who has had philosophical and business disputes with his former bandmates, will not tour with the Other Ones but is co-headlining a tour with Bob Dylan.

Kreutzmann replaces drummer John Molo, who is touring with Lesh's Phil Lesh & Friends. Kreutzmann has played with the Other Ones once before, sitting in with them during a Mountain View, Calif., show in 1998.

Ziggy Marley and the Melody Makers will tour with the Other Ones, whose lineup also includes guitarists Steve Kimock and Mark Karan and bassist and vocalist Alphonso Johnson.

The Other Ones released a live album from their 1998 tour, called The Strange Remain. It featured versions of Grateful Dead tunes such as "St. Stephen" (RealAudio excerpt of original version) and "Estimated Prophet" (RealAudio excerpt of original version), as well as new tunes such as "Banyan Tree." Hart said the band had more new tunes — and possibly another double live album — in store.
