Former Minutemen and fIREHOSE bassist Mike Watt will kick off a fall tour Sept. 11 in San Francisco, according to Columbia Records. The 49-show tour follows an extended time in the hospital for Watt, who was suffering from an internal abscess. ... Quirky rock act Dynamite Hack, known for their acoustic version of N.W.A's "Boyz-N-The Hood," will tour with Weezer from Wednesday (Aug. 23) through Sept. 12, followed by a series of shows with Goldfinger starting Sept. 15, a band spokesperson said in a statement. ...

The sixth stop of John Mellencamp's impromptu acoustic tour attracted a lunchtime crowd of about 15,000 people in Chicago's Daley Plaza on Monday (Aug. 21), the Chicago Tribune reported. The singer/guitarist played a 40-minute set that included his hits "Small Town" and "Pink Houses" as well as covers of songs by Bob Dylan, the Rolling Stones and Rod Stewart. ... Green Day have posted a spoof campaign ad on Reprise Records' Web site, promoting lead singer Billie Joe Armstrong for president. The video clip, which claims Armstrong is "burning the bridge to the 21st Century," is followed by a brief opposition clip calling Armstrong "a di--" and questioning his running mate's comb-over hairdo. ... The surviving members of industrial band Skinny Puppy, who last performed together in 1992, reunited onstage Sunday (Aug. 20) in Dresden, Germany. Country singer/guitarist Junior Brown will back rockers Stone Temple Pilots during the band's performance on CBS-TV's "Late Show With David Letterman" on Tuesday (Aug. 22). They'll play STP's latest single, "Sour Girl." ... Santana's first new song since their blockbuster album Supernatural (1999) will appear on the soundtrack to the film "Girlfight," due Sept. 26. The veteran rock band's "Olympic Festival" will appear alongside cuts by Fat Joe, MC Cuban Link, Remy Martin and Dilated Peoples. The lead single from the soundtrack will be South Bronx, N.Y., newcomer Cole's "I Can Do Too," co-written and produced by Dallas Austin (TLC) and featuring a rap by Queen Latifah. ...

The new album from Irish rockers U2 (Oct. 31) will be called All That You Can't Leave Behind, according to a publicist for the band. The album includes the tracks "Beautiful Day," "Elevation," "Walk On," "Stuck in a Moment," "Peace on Earth," "Kite," "New York," "In a Little While," "Wild Honey," "When I Look at the World" and "Grace." ... Sony Music has settled its copyright infringement lawsuit against MP3.com, and granted the Web site a license to use its music in its My.Mp3.com service, according to a statement from MP3.com. The Web site, which previously settled the same lawsuit with EMI, Warner Music Group and BMG, still faces legal action from Universal Music Group. The major labels sued the site in January to stop My.MP3.com, claiming the online CD-storage-and-playback service infringed on their copyrights. A federal judge decided in the labels' favor in a preliminary ruling in April, and MP3.com removed the major labels' recordings from the service. ...
