FOO HOT FIGHTING PEPPERS |

Two of the hiring-est, firing-est bands on the alternative scene will see if they can put up with themselves and each other when the Red Hot Chili Peppers and Foo Fighters join forces for a nationwide tour. The two bands are
The tour will take in small venues and college towns, but more dates are to be announced. Dates in major cities like New York are likely to take place sometime in the summer. At the moment the second leg of the tour is scheduled to wrap up on May 14 in Portland, Maine. It will be an unusual mix of musical styles. The Peppers are known for their Californian funk with a whiff of heroin excess. The Foo Fighters are known for their grungy power-pop with, er, a whiff of heroin excess. The Foos will open for the Peppers, although other support acts are expected to be announced. The bands, however, are not altogether unfamiliar with each other. The Chili Pepper singer, Anthony Keidis, told MTV News, "We go back because we played with Nirvana a bunch of times when Dave [Grohl] was the drummer." Tickets will be on sale through MTV.com (gee, thanks a lot guys) on January 26. On January 29, you will be able to get tickets through the usual outlets and your local scalper. Both bands are also known for going through musicians like a hot Barry White through butter. The position of guitarist, stage right, is particularly volatile for the Chili Peppers. Jack Sherman played on the band's debut album. Following the untimely death of second guitarist Hillel Slovak in 1988, John Fruscianti filled in, who was replaced by Arik Marshall, then Jesse Tobias, then Dave Navarro. Navarro eventually left to make way for Fruscianti's triumphant return on 1999's Californication album. Foo Fighter Dave Grohl originally played all the instruments for the Foo Fighters. Since then, he has captained an ever-changing cast of characters, with the guitar position filled first by Pat Smear, then Franz Stahl, and then Chris Shiflett. Who will take the stage when the bands tour together? Will Flea play bass with the Foo Fighters? Will Dave Grohl decide he wants his old job back? Will Batman and Robin possibly escape the Joker's giant ice cream-making machine in order to catch their Dayton, Ohio gig? For the answers to these and other questions, you can catch them on the following dates at the following venues: March 24 Minneapolis, MN - Target Center March 25 Madison, WI - Dane County Expo Center March 27 Carbondale, IL - SIU Arena March 28 Champaign, IL - Assembly Arena March 30 Dayton, OH - Nutter Center March 31 Columbus, OH - Value City Arena April 2 Amherst, MA - Mullins Center April 3 Albany, NY - Pepsi Arena April 5 State College, PA - Bryce Jordan Arena April 6 Roanoke, VA - Civic Center April 8 Bloomington, IN - Assembly Hall April 9 Lexington, KY - Rupp Arena April 11 Knoxville, TN - Thompson-Boling Arena April 12 Chattanooga, TN - UTC Arena April 25 Omaha, NB - Civic Auditorium April 26 Iowa City, IA - Carver Hawkeye April 28 Columbia, MO - Hearnes Center April 29 Oklahoma City, OK - Myriad Center May 1 Little Rock, AR - Barton Coliseum May 2 Austin, TX - Frank Erwin Center May 4 New Orleans, LA - TBA May 5 Pensacola, FL - Civic Center May 7 Greenville, SC - Bi-Lo Center May 8 Norfolk, VA - Scope Exhibition Arena May 11 Wilkes-Barre, PA - NEPA Arena May 13 Providence, RI - Civic Center May 14 Portland, ME - Cumberland County Civic Center |
