EMINEM'S WIFE IN SUICIDE ATTEMPT |

Hope your weekend wasn't anything like that of ornery rap superstar Eminem, aka Marshall Mathers. His wife, Kimberly Mathers, 25, was admitted to a Detroit hospital on Friday, July 7 after slitting her wrists. According to The Detroit
The Detroit Free Press reported that police were called to the Mathers' Sterling Heights, Mich., home at 11:30 p.m. on Friday night. Kimberly was taken to Mount Clemens General Hospital and later released. That evening Eminem was performing at the Palace of Auburn Hills with the Up in Smoke tour, but was with his wife as she recuperated. "Eminem is obviously concerned about his wife's well-being," said Dennis Dennehy, director of media and artist relations for Interscope Records, Em's record label. "As far as anything else, it's a private matter which they'll be addressing privately." However, relatives of the couple were quick to try to piece together what happened. Eminem's uncle Todd Nelson said that Kimberly had attended the Auburn Hills concert and its after-party earlier that evening. Eminem was not at home when his wife tried to commit suicide. Speaking to The Detroit News, Eminem's grandmother Betty Kresin said that the rapper's life was complicated by a custody battle with his mother over his 14-year-old half-brother, Nate Samra-Mathers. Samra-Mathers had been staying with Kimberly and Eminem at their home during the time of the suicide attempt and told his grandmother that Kim "slit her wrists five times on both arms." Kresin - who lives in St. Louis - said that Eminem and his mother, Debbie Mathers-Briggs, "got into it over his brother Nate" during the weekend. "Kim wouldn't let Debbie have him back," she claimed. "Marshall is trying to get custody of him now that he has some money." Mathers-Briggs is suing Eminem for defamation to the tune of $10 million, citing lyrics on his first album, The Slim Shady LP. On Friday, the Web site for British music magazine Q reported that Mathers-Briggs was also kicking off her own musical career. The track "Why Are You Doing Me Like You Are?" would seem to be a response to Eminem's lyrical allegations that "my mom smokes more dope than I do." Kresin told the Web site, "I really hope it's a success for her, she really needs to make some money because Eminem gives her nothing. She's working with some good musicians and I hope it will be a hit." The relationship between Eminem and his wife has certainly been stormy, at least on record. On the track "Kim" from the chart-topping Marshall Mathers LP, Eminem imagines a violent scenario that culminates in his wife's suicide. "You and your husband have a fight," he raps. "One of you tries to grab a knife/ And during the struggle he accidentally gets his Adam's apple sliced/ And while this is going on/ His son just woke up and he just walks in/ She panics and he gets his throat cut/ So now they both dead and you slash your own throat/ So now it's double homicide and suicide with no note." Earlier on Friday, Eminem appeared at the 44th District Court in Royal Oak, Mich., where he is facing charges of weapons possession and brandishing a weapon in public. Eminem is alleged to have waved a gun in the face of an Insane Clown Posse cohort during a June 4 argument. At the hearing, Eminem waived a preliminary examination. He is due to attend a second hearing on July 17. The feud between Insane Clown Posse and Eminem started on wax when Eminem alleged on a Marshall Mathers sketch that Violent J and Shaggy 2 Dope were lovers. The Detroit rap duo have since retorted by posting a song "Nothin' But a B*tch Thang" on their Web site www.insaneclownposse.com. On the track, the Insane Clown Posse rap that "Eminem ain't nothing but a b*tch" before making some unfortunate references to fellatio. During the track, an Eminem impersonator chimes in with "It's all about Dre." Eminem isn't out of the woods yet. On the morning of Tuesday, July 11, he is slated to appear in Warren District Court to answer charges of weapons possession and felony assault. Eminem is alleged to have threatened to kill John Guerra after he saw the man kissing his wife outside a Warren, Mich., nightclub. |
