Former teen idol Leif Garrett is again a poster boy — only this time the posters say "Wanted." Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Maral Injejikian issued a warrant for Garrett's arrest Wednesday after he failed to appear in court for a
Garrett pleaded guilty to possession of a controlled substance via a plea bargain in August 1999. The charge stems from an arrest earlier that summer, when he was found with cocaine and heroin in a Los Angeles apartment. The judge told the singer at the time of his conviction that he would avoid jail time as long as he completed a stint in rehab and appeared in court for regular progress reports on his recovery. He received a positive report last summer, Injejikian's clerk said. Garrett's long battle with substance abuse also resulted in a 1979 car accident that left his friend Roland Winkler paralyzed. In 1997 he was arrested for cocaine possession. The singer last surfaced on the music front leading the little-known rock group Godspeed. |
