wrote some songs with Mick Jagger for the Stones singer's upcoming solo album, and he recently sat down with Willie Nelson to help pen the country maverick's next album, The Great Divide, which is scheduled for release September 25. Thomas also sings on the track "Maria." Several other pop artists helped out. Kid Rock duets with Nelson on "Last Stand in Open Country," Brian McKnight collaborates on "Don't Fade Away," and Elton John lyricist Bernie Taupin penned several tracks including "Mendocino County Line," which features guest vocals by Lee Ann Womack and fiddle by Alison Krauss.

Sheryl Crow and Bonnie Raitt sang on "Be There for You" and "You Remain," respectively.

Nelson's only writing credit is on the record's title track.

The Great Divide was produced by Matt Serletic (Collective Soul, Matchbox Twenty).

The track list for The Great Divide, according to the album's publicist:
  • "Maria"
  • "Mendocino County Line"
  • "Last Stand in Open Country"
  • "You Won't Catch Me Cryin' "
  • "Be There for You"
  • "The Great Divide"
  • "Just Dropped In (To See What Condition My Condition Was In)"
  • "This Face"
  • "Don't Fade Away"
