Although a new album isn't expected until summer, Foo Fighters have given fans something to get them through the two-year dry spell since There Is Nothing Left to Lose.
The group's official Web site,
www.foofighters.com, is streaming a new Foo song, "The One," which will be included on the soundtrack to the film "Orange County," according to the band's publicist.
The straightforward stomp is a contemptuous anthem for the scorned, featuring a chorus of "You're not the one, but you're the only one who could make me feel like this/ You're not the one, but you're the only one who could make me feel like sh--." Wirey guitars shred when Grohl's not singing about the object of his disdain, while drums pound mercilessly in the background.
Foo Fighters filmed a video for the track in New York recently with director Jesse Peretz, who helmed the band's clips for "Big Me" and "Learn to Fly." In a post on the Foo Fighters site, Grohl, while not letting the proverbial cat out of the bag, promises the video will be just as hilarious as its predecessors.
"Orange County," whose plot revolves around mishandled high-school transcripts that prevent a deserving student from getting into Stanford, stars Jack Black of Tenacious D ("Shallow Hal," "High Fidelity"), Colin Hanks (HBO's "Band of Brothers") and Schuyler Fisk ("Snow Day").
The band, meanwhile, is working on its fourth album in Grohl's home studio in Virginia. Completed tracks so far carry the tentative song titles "Attica!" and "Get Up, I Want to Get Down." The Foos will take a break December 9 to perform at the Almost Acoustic Christmas, the annual radio concert hosted by Los Angeles' KROQ, alongside Staind, Linkin Park and others (see "Linkin Park, P.O.D., Nickelback, More To Play LA's KROQ Fest").
