Björk, Oasis, Foo Fighters, the Prodigy and the Chemical Brothers — artists who have played only a handful of dates in America over the past year — are among the performers announced so far for the third Coachella Valley Music and Arts
Festival.
Coachella, which will again be held in the desert town of Indio, California, will also feature rockers Queens of the Stone Age, Belle & Sebastian and Black Rebel Motorcycle Club; hip-hoppers Mos Def, Ozomatli, Jurassic 5, Dilated Peoples and KRS-One; and electronic acts Basement Jaxx, Paul Oakenfold, Sasha & Digweed, Groove Armada, St. Germain and DJ Tiesto.
The two-day concert will be held April 27 and 28, with Björk headlining the first night and Oasis the second. Additional artists, performing on four stages, will be announced at a later date, according to a spokesperson for the festival.
The inaugural Coachella Festival was held in October 1999, just weeks after Woodstock '99 ended in riots. It featured performances from Tool, Rage Against the Machine, Moby and dozens of others (see "Tool's Maynard To Roll Out 'Perfect Circle' At Coachella").
Organizers opted not to stage a Coachella the following fall, instead holding a one-day concert last April featuring a Jane's Addiction reunion (see "Jane's Addiction, Chemical Brothers, More Heat Up Coachella").
Tickets are $65 per day and go on sale March 2. A weekend pass covering both days will be available at a discount price.
