VH1 has been nominated for Emmy Awards for last year's special "Concert for New York City," the continuing series "Behind the Music" and the channel's live broadcast of a U2 concert.

victims of the World Trade Center attack and honor the heroic efforts of rescue workers, was nominated in the categories Outstanding Variety, Music or Comedy Special; and Outstanding Art Direction for a Variety or Music Program. Among the performers at the October concert were Paul McCartney, Mick Jagger and Keith Richards, John Mellencamp and the Who.

"It was a great evening for VH1 and for all of New York City," said Fred Graver, who, along with Greg Sill, was executive producer on the show. "The Emmy nomination is a wonderful recognition of what an extraordinary event this concert was."

Also vying for honors in the category were ABC's presentation of this year's Academy Awards, the multi-network 9/11 telethon "America: A Tribute to Heroes," CBS' "The Carol Burnett Show: Show Stoppers," Bravo's "Cirque du Soleil's Alegria" and the opening ceremony of this year's Olympic Winter Games, which was broadcast on NBC.

VH1's longstanding show "Behind the Music" was nominated for Outstanding Non-Fiction Series (Informational) for the third year in a row.

"It's always gratifying to be nominated," said George Moll, Senior Vice President of production and programming for the series. "It's a testament to the hard work put in by everyone who contributes to the show, particularly on the Notorious B.I.G. episode that was submitted for nomination. I would hold the reporting and producing of that show up against anything in television."

VH1's popular look at the triumphs and tragedies of the world's favorite music stars will face competition from PBS' "Antiques Roadshow," A&E's "Biography," E!'s "The E! True Hollywood Story" and Bravo's "Inside the Actors Studio."

"All of the shows in that category have become cultural touchstones," said Paul Gallagher, the music channel's executive producer of West Coast production. "Every one of those shows has been lovingly parodied on 'Saturday Night Live.' The nominating committee is recognizing people who have created something that's more than a good TV show, but something that really has left its mark on pop culture."

"We're hoping the third time's the charm," added Moll. "[If we win] there will probably be some 'Behind the Music'-type partying that takes place — inspired by many of our subjects."

The team that edited VH1's "U2 Elevation 2001: Live From Boston" was nominated for Outstanding Multi-Camera Picture Editing for a Miniseries, Movie or a Special. The other nominees in the category are the 2002 Academy Awards telecast, TNT's "Come Together: A Night for John Lennon's Words and Music," HBO's "Janet Jackson: In Concert From Hawaii" and HBO's "John Leguizamo's Sexaholix ... A Love Story."
