SANTA MONICA, California — If her "Milkshake" brings all the boys to the yard, wait until they hear her even sexier next single. After revealing how to pick up men in her first single from Tasty (see
The ode to exhibitionism, a collaboration with her fiancé, Nas, features kinky lyrics like "Come take a walk with me/ We can do it over there by all the trees/ Drive this car real fast/ I'll lay my head down and make your body blast." She even sings, "Let's make a movie, baby," on the Rockwilder-produced track, although don't expect a Kelis sex tape to hit the Internet anytime soon. "It's kind of like a fantasy record," the singer said recently. "It's sort of about being very comfortable with yourself in public, which is an important thing, particularly in the business we're in." Kelis is all about being comfortable and confident, especially when explaining the motivation behind the title Tasty. "To get people to swallow something it's got to taste good, and this album does," she boasted. "Hopefully people will like it and they will swallow it and make it part of their lives." The album, which was released a week ago, marks Kelis' first Stateside album since her 1999 Neptunes-produced debut, Kaleidoscope. "It's been awhile since I have been out here," she said. "It took me a minute, but honestly, this whole album I am really proud of." Tasty is actually Kelis' third album, but 2001's Wanderland was only released in Europe due to issues with her record label. That LP, which featured a Gwen Stefani duet titled "Perfect Day" (see "Kelis In Wanderland, But Still In Your Face") and a song called "Popular Thug" that was later included on The Neptunes Present ... Clones, would likely be a big seller after the success of "Milkshake," but Kelis has no plans to release it in the U.S. "It's like once I do it, I move on. It was years ago for me. Tasty is new and I'll just keep doing new stuff, see what happens," she said. Kelis will promote her new record with a tour in early 2004. "I don't know who [with] yet," she said. "I kind of just show up." This report is from MTV News. |
