There's no getting around the way that Gwen's dominated the radio landscape lately; we're all in "Hollaback" heaven. Elsewhere you find Pretty Ricky with their mind in the gutter and Jack Johnson with his mind in the water.

Gwen Stefani -- "Hollaback Girl"

After 12 weeks on the charts, the pummeling parade beat still blasts from loads of car windows and boom boxes. We've seen kids jumping rope to it, couples making out to it, and dudes running red lights to it. Who'd have thought that listening to Gwen spell b-a-n-a-n-a-s over trombone synths and Queen shout-outs would generate the song of the summer?

Teenage Fanclub -- "It's All in My Mind"

The first track on their new Man-Made is yet another effortless pop gem from the Scottish quartet, disguising late 30-something doubt beneath summery West Coast harmonies and Big Star guitar flash.

Dwight Yoakam -- "She'll Remember"

You'll recall he's an actor, so the psychedelic narrative that intros this twanged-out romp isn't as far-fetched as you might initially think. "If you leave/I suggest you stay gone/and I mean stay gone forever," he says in Bob Hoskins voice. Nifty way to begin a romp that -- happily -- sounds just like the rest of his tunes.

Pretty Ricky -- "Grind With Me"

Imagine 112 or Destiny's Child if they sang the letters page of Penthouse. That's the drill with this Miami soul-rap combo, who let their dirty minds fool with a thuggish R&B beat and a can of whipped cream.

Interpol -- "Slow Hands"

Their debut disc suggested they had a specific sound (even if it was equal parts Echo & the Bunnymen and Joy Division). Now here come the songs to prove it: this panicky Antics highlight lives up to the album title.

Lucinda Williams - "Real Live Bleeding Fingers and Broken Guitar Strings"

Tipping the hat to Neil Young's guitar freak outs and the Replacements' rambunctiousness, the queen of American folk-rock turns into the queen of American rock-folk. Live albums are usually designed to give the band some props, and Williams' erotic rasp only enhances the liftoff her group brings to the performance.

A Band of Bees -- "Chicken Shack"

Close your eyes and you'll swear this has just been unearthed from a vault at Stax: it's an irresistible tribute to Memphis funk, made by a group of English hippies.

Keren Ann -- "Greatest You Can Find"

A simple valentine, delivered in the kind of heartfelt pillow talk that trades hot sex for a simple peck on the cheek -- which sometimes means just as much. The French singer with NYC address is a master of gentility.

Royksopp -- "Only This Moment"

The duo's Melody AM was an ambient classic, and while the new The Understanding has its progressive side, this ethereal single could be booming from a distant club as you watch the sun rise over Ibiza.

Oliver Nelson -- "Stolen Moments"

Jazz and surfing? Jack Johnson plucks a super-cool 1961 gem from this composer-arranger's oeuvre for the soundtrack to the wave-ripping documentary Sprout.
