nominated again this year). The former "Idol" is ready to get back to the country basics on her next release.

"I am [working on a new album]," she told MTV News earlier this week on the Dressed to Kilt red carpet. "I actually am writing for the third album, so it should come out this fall."

In case some of her previous efforts were a little too pop for country-music fans, the North Carolina native said this next album will embrace her down-home roots. "It's very country. I'm kind of going back to my roots," she said. "I grew up listening to more traditional country music: Merle Haggard, Hank Williams, Patsy Cline, Tammy [Wynette], Dolly [Parton]. So, I'm kind of going back to my roots. I'm excited about that."

Pickler has been so busy working on new music that she hasn't had time to check out "American Idol" this season, but she does offer new judge Ellen DeGeneres her full support. "I've not seen the show, but I love Ellen," Pickler said. "She's like my favorite person in the world. I'm sure she's doing great."

At this year's CMT Music Awards, Pickler is nominated for Female Video of the Year for "Didn't You Know How Much I Loved You" and Collaborative Video of the Year for her duet with Taylor Swift, "Best Days of Your Life."
