Seminal acid-rockers Jefferson Airplane received a commemorative
star on the sidewalk outside the Bill Graham Civic Auditorium in San
Francisco on Wednesday to mark their induction into the "Bammies Walk
of Fame," sponsored by BAM
magazine. The band joins such musical
icons as Jerry Garcia, Janis Joplin, Bill Graham,
Carlos Santana and John Lee Hooker, who all have been
similarly honored. Members of the Airplane who showed up for Wednesday's
festivities included guitarists Jorma Kaukonen and Paul
Kantner, bassist Jack Casady and drummer Spencer Dryden.
Lead singers Grace Slick and Marty Balin were absent.
Kantner used the occasion to announce tentative plans for an Airplane
reunion concert in San Francisco's Golden Gate Park later this year.
The group last reunited to tour in 1989.
