Reggae musician, producer and dub innovator Augustus Pablo died Tuesday in Kingston, Jamaica, after a long illness, according to a spokesperson for RAS, his record label. He was 46. The New York Times reported that Pablo suffered

from a nerve disorder called myasthenia gravis. Pablo, who was born Horace Swaby, played keyboards on several recordings by reggae legend Bob Marley. Beginning in the 1970s, Pablo released albums of instrumental dub reggae that helped define the genre. Pablo, who played melodica, also worked as a studio musician and produced records by other reggae artists, including Junior Delgado. Pablo released a new album, Valley of Jehosaphat, in April.
