Dr. Octagon

It's A Plane. It's A Bird. It's... Dr. Octagon?

Sightings of the mysterious missing rapper place him in New York rapping at Rawkus.

After a week-long stint spent under his Ultra-magnetic cloaking device, rapper Dr. Octagon has resurfaced on the earth, only to disappear again into the wild unknown, according to his label representatives.

The Dr. (whose alter-ego is Kool

Keith) is currently in Los Angeles, although his exact whereabouts remain a closely-guarded secret, according to Geffen Records' publicist Dennis Dennehy. Octagon's Dr. Octagonecologyst was recently re-released on the Geffen-affiliated Dreamworks label.

"He called me from his cell phone yesterday," Dennehy said on Friday. "God knows what planet he was phoning from, but he said he was in L.A. and that he might be turning up again for a show in New York next week."

Ever since ATN began reporting two weeks ago on the mysterious disappearance of the former Ultramagnetic MC's rapper -- who was supposed to take his Dr. Octagon Experience on the road this past Wednesday for a stint on Lollapalooza's Second Stage, but was dropped from the lineup when he couldn't uncloak in time -- we've received calls, e-mails and deep-throat tips on the whereabouts of the microphoned physician.

One of those tips came from Chicago-based music biz vet Phillip C. Hertz, who told ATN he'd heard about an Octagon sighting when he was in New York last week. His email read: "I was in N.Y.C. for four days over the weekend and mentioned (that he'd been reported missing) to the boys at Rawkus. They laughed (many times) and said he'd been in there the day before."

A source at New York-based rap label Rawkus confirmed that the extra-terrestrial rapper had recently been in the office to record some tracks for an underground rap compilation.

"Keith was in here a week and a half ago," said the Rawkus source, who preferred to remain anonymous. "He laid down some tracks for this compilation, but it was before he was missing."

The source speculated that perhaps the rapper wasn't really missing, but just "doesn't want to be found."

Why? Well... when you're Dr. Octagon, there could be any number of weird reasons.

The source suggested that if you really wanted to find the good Dr., you should beam into a July 11 Ultramagnetic MC's reunion show at New York's Tramps nightclub, during which he is expected to make an appearance.

"He told me he was going to do that reunion show," Geffen's Dennehy said. "We had a great 45-50 second conversation, but then as soon as I asked him where he was calling from, his cell phone mysteriously started picking up interference and he was gone again."
