The Manic Street Preachers have pledged to donate approximately $50,000 to the Welsh football association if Terry Venables, England's former coach, takes over management of the Welsh soccer team. Bassist Nicky Wire made the offer
during an interview on Radio 1, on the condition that Wales also qualifies for the World Cup, an unlikely feat. A spokesperson for the band confirmed that the pop-rockers would pay up should Venables move to the Welsh team — but he added that was "like saying you'll pay if they get a dog to pilot a spaceship to Mars."
