Funkateers the Ohio Players, rap pioneers the Sugarhill Gang, '60s pop hitmakers the Turtles and new-wavers Berlin were among the artists who rocked the Rhino Records' RetroFest in Santa Monica, Calif., over the weekend.
"Harold Bronson at Rhino gave me a job singing some Rhino thing when I was like 17, 18," said Berlin singer Terri Nunn, now 40. Other acts on the bill included Missing Persons, Leif Garrett, the Mighty Echoes, Dick Dale, Mitch Ryder and Chuck Negron from Three Dog Night. The three-day pop-culture festival also offered displays of original TV cars including the Batmobile, the original set for "The Honeymooners," a miniature-golf course, arcade games and drawing lessons from Hanna-Barbera cartoon illustrators. Barbara Eden of "I Dream of Jeannie" and Jerry Mathers of "Leave It to Beaver" also appeared.
