Former Concrete Blonde singer Johnette Napolitano will
celebrate the Mexican Day of the Dead (Nov. 1) with the opening of her
art exhibit and a subsequent performance in her native Los Angeles.
Napolitano, who formerly ran a
gallery called the Lucky Nun, will unveil
her debut art exhibit, a series of mixed-media freestanding crosses
inspired by the roadside memorial markers in the Mexican desert, as part
of a group show Oct. 28 at Zero One Gallery in Los Angeles. On Oct. 30,
she will give her first performance since May 1998 at the Palace in
Hollywood, backed by the rock en español band Maria Fatal.
Singer Terri Nunn, of the pop band Berlin, and Holly
Vincent will join her during the show, which is expected to include
material from Napolitano's unreleased solo album, Sound of a Woman,
as well as Concrete Blonde favorites and new material she is compiling
for an album.
