Soul-pop singer Dionne Warwick is planning to record her first album of new material since 1994's Aquarela Do Brazil (Watercolors of Brazil).
"I'm looking forward to consummating a record deal very
soon and getting back into the studio," the 59-year-old singer said, declining to name the potential label.
Warwick attended Arista Records' 25th anniversary concert Monday night, performing a rendition of her 1979 hit "I'll Never Love This Way Again" (RealAudio excerpt) early on in the show. She also capped the evening with a finale rendition of "That's What Friends Are For," for which she was joined by Melissa Etheridge, Carole King, Natalie Cole and others.
Backstage, Warwick spoke out against reports that her cousin, soul-pop diva Whitney Houston, has a drug problem.
In 1998, Warwick released Dionne Sings Dionne, which included a reworked version of her 1966 hit "What the World Needs Now Is Love," featuring Coolio, Kurupt, Bobby Brown, Big Daddy Kane and Flesh-N-Bone.
