Rebbie Jackson And LaToya Jacksonby Contributing Editor Frank Tortorici |
Rebbie Jackson and LaToya Jackson are just two of the nine children in the Jackson musical dynasty. Rebbie Jackson was born Maureen Jackson on May 29, 1950, in Gary, Ind.
Rebbie Jackson and LaToya Jackson, along with younger sister Janet Jackson, began their musical careers by singing background vocals for the Jackson 5, the immensely popular group that included five of their brothers. Beginning in 1970 the group had a string of 13 top-20 singles, including "I Want You Back." In the early '80s, LaToya Jackson and Janet Jackson issued solo albums. LaToya Jackson's eponymous debut was released in 1980, followed a year later by My Special Love. She had R&B hits with "Stay the Night" and "Bet'cha Gonna Need My Lovin'." In 1984 Rebbie Jackson threw her hat into the musical ring with Centipede. The funky title track was a hit, while "Plaything" entered the top 10. Two years later, Rebbie Jackson dueted with Robin Zander of Cheap Trick on "You Send the Rain Away." Her "R U Tuff Enuff," released in 1988, featured rapper Melle Mel. After a break from recording, Rebbie Jackson contributed "Forever Young" to the soundtrack to "Free Willy 2" (1995). Her most recent album was 1998's Yours Faithfully.. Although she released You're Gonna Get Rocked in 1988, LaToya Jackson has become increasingly known for her extramusical activities, including a nude Playboy magazine layout in 1989. In 1991 she wrote an internationally best-selling autobiography, "LaToya: Growing Up in the Jackson Family." Other birthdays Monday: Jesse Johnson (the Time), 40. |
