No Angel
No Angel
On No Angel, Dido takes the chill off a pristine production with her warmblooded vocals and intimate, romantic lyrics. The best moments, on songs like "Honestly O.K." and "Isobel," are a little dubby and a lot dreamy, exposing Dido's roots as a member of Faithless, the English electronic combo helmed by her brother Rollo. Unlike Faithless, she's not aiming for the dance floor. No Angel is 21st Century folk music for the chill-out room at the disco, a late night at a smoky restaurant, or a Sunday morning with the headphones -- when you want to put the world on pause and just listen to the music.

Reverence
Although Euro-house producer Rollo had cemented his reputation as an in-demand remixer, it took a 1995 collaboration with little sister Dido to bring commercial success to his own material. A classically trained singer, Dido added angelic background vocals to the propulsive dance beats of Reverence, the debut album from Rollo's band Faithless. The singer drew on musical influences like Ella Fitzgerald and Sting in her contributions to the gospel-tinged "Don't Leave" and "Salva Mea," a huge dance hit. Her sole lead vocal performance came on "Flowerstand Man," a track she co-wrote her brother. As Dido sang "I don't care about the starving who've died... I don't care about anything but you" over jazzy piano frills and bursts of strings, she produced a rare moment of poignancy on a landmark collection of club anthems.
