Sade speaks
...to you! We sent your questions to Sade and here's what she had to say to you. She gets into everything from motherhood to her favorite music. So keep reading and get One to One with Sade.
Q: Your music is very personal and full of emotion. Does recording/writing ever take you somewhere emotionally that you do not want to go?
- Lisa from Columbus, Ohio
A: Music for me is emotion. I think it's only natural that joy and melancholy come out when listening to any song that touches me. But in either case, I embrace my moods.
Q: Which one of your songs is your favorite?
- Clark from Hampton, Va.
A: I don't really have a favorite. It depends on my mood.
Q: Whenever I get stressed out and need to unwind, I pop in your greatest hits CD and slide into the tub! I would like to know what you do to unwind and whose music relaxes you?
- Sarah from Philadelphia
A: Cesaria Evora, Mercedes Sosa, Al Green, Aretha Franklin, Gregory Isaacs.
Q: What do you enjoy doing in your spare time, and what most impacts your creativeness?
- Mike from Atlanta
A: I play with my little girl. I make music. I like to dig in my garden, just to be in the element. I like to watch people from the distance in the middle of the city. I love to dance.
Q: During the eight years you spent away from music, how much time did you spend on creating songs for the Lovers Rock album?
- Nick from Whittier, Calif.
A: Songwriting requires experiences. More songs come with more experience. You could say that I spent the entire time being inspired.
Q: Now that you are an accomplished singer/songwriter, do you have plans on doing movies or any acting?
- Brian from Atlanta
A: No acting projects, but our next video, I'm going to be performing more as another person than me.
Q: Who or what inspires you the most to write songs?
- Bernadette from Bakersfield, Calif.
A: There's not one person who inspires me. Many people have given me something in my life - musicians, artists, and people. I aspire to their greatness, people who I love and respect.
Q: If you had to choose a favorite song on the Lovers Rock album, what song would it be and why?
- Brian from San Francisco
A: Each song has its own personality or atmosphere. It's hard to separate one from the other, and it's important [to do so]. The time it's most clear to me which are my favorites, is when I'm singing live, when I have to stand and deliver.
Q: Who is the recurring love interest in Sade's videos up until the previous album?
- Reyna from Queens Village, N.Y.
A: No mystery, simply a recurring theme. The director sets the mood for the song visually.
