Gossip Girl star Leighton Meester appears on the cover of Us Weekly and reveals “Her Untold Story.” The 22-year-old actress, who plays spoiled, conniving Upper East Sider Blair Waldorf, actually began life as a jail baby, born to her incarcerated mother who was just beginning a ten year sentence for her involvement in a drug ring that smuggled tons of marijuana into the United States. Leighton talks to the mag about how her role on Gossip Girl sharply contrasts from her modest upbringing, being made fun of in high school, and her ex-con mama.
On playing a pampered princess:
“It’s hard for me to relate to people who were born with silver spoons in their mouths.”
On her mom Connie, who got pregnant with Leighton while out on bail:
“I swear, that woman knows everything. Every question I’ve ever asked her – life questions, personal stuff like boyfriend advice, she’s always had the right advice for me.”
On attending Beverly Hills High School:
“Most people there have a lot of money, and my family really didn’t. They’d be making fun of my clothes or my bag or whatever.”
