Glamorous 1980s popstar (and erstwhile musical impresario – rememberTaboo? Actually, don’t) Boy George has been found guilty this morning of imprisoning a male escort in his London flat. He faces a stint in the slammer after a jury decided that yes, he did attack rent boy Auden Carlson when he tried to escape and tied him to the bed. Boy George claimed he handcuffed Carlson because he suspected him of stealing photos from his laptop when they’d met a few months earlier — but Auden reckoned it was an old-fashioned case of sour grapes.
“I think he couldn’t handle the refusal — me not having sex with him,” he said during the trial.
Look, it’s perfectly understandable to er, lash out (with a metal chain, allegedly) when you’re feeling a bit rejected. We joke, of course. But it’s a big fall from grace for the former pop icon, who’s due to be sentenced Jan 16. Still, it will surely give the worlds’ headline writers lots and lots of fun in the next few days.
