The Grammy Nominees For Record Of The Year: Which Brit Had The Best Hit?

|

America, what happened? All five of Record Of The Year Grammy nominees were recorded by Brits! Not that they aren’t trying to hide it: Alison Krauss is from Illinois, but her collaborator Robert Plant was born in West Bromwich, Staffordshire (wot wot!). MIA and Leona Lewis throw viewers off the trail by setting their videos in Manhattan, but the ladies were born in Hounslow and Islington, respectively. Blimey!

This is the first year Americans haven’t dominated the category since Englishmen Steve Winwood, Peter Gabriel and Robert Palmer were nominated in 1987. If we don’t step up our game, they might start taxing us again.

  • MIA, “Paper Planes”

  • Robert Plant & Alison Krauss, “Please Read The Letter”

  • Coldplay, “Viva La Vida”

  • Leona Lewis, “Bleeding love”

  • Adele, “Chasing Pavements”
