Danny Gokey looks like a sure shot to make it into American Idol‘s Top 12 after tonight’s elimination. He’s got a strong voice, a great personality, and the recent death of his wife can’t help but tug on viewers’ heartstrings. Sure, he was cheeseball enough to sing Mariah Carey‘s “Hero” last night, but America loves a little cheeseball.
Still, we think what’s really getting him over is that he resembles druggie-turned-Iron Man Robert Downey Jr. Same smile, twinkle, same nervous energy, same gritty drawl of a singing voice…that’s right, they even sing alike! You may have forgotten, but Downey released a less-than-successful album, The Futurist, five years ago. Compare clips of the pair after the jump and your ears will experience some serious deja vu.
