Remember when homeless singer J.D. Fortune won the chance to lead a resurrected INXS on the TV show Rock Band in 2005? Less than four years later, he’s out of the group and once again living in his car. Fortune, who sang on the band’s 2006 album, Switch, revealed to Entertainment Tonight Canada that he was unceremoniously dropped in 2007 after a show in Hong Kong. A road-derived cocaine addiction may have been the cause of his dismissal, though Fortune claims he’s been sober for two years.
“I don’t know where I’m going sofa to sofa, night to night,” says Fortune. “I’m trying to get through my life.” Despite his current lack of residence, he’s still trying to get his solo album, Death Of A Motivational Speaker, released. “The only friend, aside from family, I have is this guitar….From the street, to the air, to the street again, it’s only me.”
INXS, on hiatus since dispatching Fortune, has yet to comment.
