Ranter Rick Santelli Accuses The White House Of Threatening Him

Following CNBC reporter Rick Santelli‘s popular rant on a Chicago commodities exchange floor, White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs had an angry response. “I’m not entirely sure where Mr. Santelli lives or in what house he lives, but the American people are struggling every day to meet their mortgage, stay in their jobs, pay their bills to send their kids to school, and to hope that they don’t get sick or somebody they care for gets sick that sends them into bankruptcy. I think we left a few months ago the adage that if it was good for a derivatives trader, that it was good for main street. I think the verdict is in on that.”

While some conservatives are already fantasizing that Santelli might join Sarah Palin on a Republican dream ticket in 2012, it looks like Santelli may not know how to deal with criticism. Yesterday, he suggested on G. Gordon Liddy‘s radio show that this criticism was a veiled threat on his life.

SANTELLI: He started that press conference saying, “I don’t know where he lives, I don’t know where his house is.” This is the Press Secretary of the White House. Is that the kind of thing we want? Is that—

LIDDY: It’s a veiled threat.

SANTELLI: It really is—I don’t really want to be a spokesman, but I really am very proud of a) the response I’m getting, which is overwhelmingly positive, and b) discourse, that is debate. That if the pressure and the heat I’m taking from the White House—the fact that my kids are nervous to go to school—I can take that, okay.

Note to Santelli: the government knows where you live. If the White House wanted to harm you, they would not have the Press Secretary go on TV and claim that he doesn’t know how big a house you have. Gibbs wasn’t hoping someone would tell him so they can throw a brick in your window and grab your kids at school. They have more discreet ways of finding out these things.

Then again, maybe Gibbs is pretending not to know where Santelli lives so that when something bad happens, he can claim innocence. Was the press conference just an alibi before they send in black ops to take Santelli out? Only time will tell.
