Legend Bea Arthur, best-known for her role in The Golden Girls, has died at age 86. The star had been suffering from cancer and died Saturday surrounded by family at her home in Los Angeles.
The actress, singer and comedian was one of America’s best loved wits, shooting to national fame in the 1970s sitcom Maude and then reaching an international audience with The Golden Girls in the 1980s. The show, in which Bea starred as the tough-talking Dorothy Zbornak, was a huge hit, and she’s pictured here in this archive shot picking up an 1988 Emmy for the comedy. Tony-winnning Bea continued performing right up until recent years with her one-woman show, and her brilliant wit and caustic humor will never be matched. [Photo: WireImage]
