Madonna‘s attempts to adopt little Mercy James from Malawi seem to be turning into an ever-complicated mess. Only a few days before the singer’s official appeal against the decision to refuse her to take the toddler to live with her, Mercy’s father has now decided to enter the fray and apply for full custody. James Kambewa — who has never met Mercy after walking out on her mother while she was pregnant — now claims his daughter needs “parental love” and casts aspersions on Madonna’s suitability to be a parent.
“I don’t think Madonna is a model mum. I have seen her in movies of her songs. She doesn’t portray good morals. How can a woman of 50 dance almost naked on stage? I wouldn’t want my daughter to grow up like that! In Malawi women respect themselves. Cultured women do not go about half-naked,” he says. He has enlisted the help of the Human Rights Consultative Committee in his case, who believe Malawi should take care of its own children. Madonna’s appeal is due to be heard next Monday.
