If you were Paula Abdul, you’d probably be playing hardball with your salary too. With the recent news that Simon Cowell will be making $45 million per year and Ryan Seacrest will make $15 million a year, Abdul has also requested a raise for the 2010 season of American Idol. Currently she makes $4 million a year and has requested $20 million. Sure, it all seems ridiculous in the real world, but in terms of equality, we’re with Paula – she certainly deserves as much, if not more than Seacrest. Cowell on the other hand, is obviously the driving force of the show and despite the fact that they are both judges, Paula’s salary would never match his. Unfortunately her offer was not met and even though she reduced her asking price to $12 million things are at a standstill, despite the fact that auditions begin in two weeks.
It especially sucks to know what your co-workers make and realize you earn less than them (even though we’d take $4 million any day), but in a gesture of solidarity, Cowell did say of Paula and the rumors that she would not star on the next season, “She’ll be on the show. I don’t get a lot of say. I’ve just made it clear that I want Paula on the show.” [Photo: GettyImages]
