They’ve “split up” about a billion times before, but apparently this break is for real, and British rock band Oasis are no more. In news that will surprise absolutely no one, Noel Gallagher has walked out on the band he’s been in since 1991 with brother Liam, after relations between the pair became strained until the breaking point.
“It’s with some sadness and great relief to tell you that I quit Oasis tonight. People will write and say what they like, but I simply could not go on working with Liam a day longer,” Noel wrote on the band’s official website. “I feel you have the right to know that the level of verbal and violent intimidation towards me, my family, friends and comrades has become intolerable.”
Rumors as to what finally tipped the warring brothers over the edge are varied (and could be many), but the News of the World is claiming that it was because Liam suggested Noel wasn’t the dad of his daughter Anais. “Liam insisted it was meant as a joke, but Noel could never forget the insult, calling it ‘unforgivable’,” the paper reports. However uninspiring and revisionist their music had become in recent years, Oasis truly had been a force to be reckoned with in the glory days of the mid-1990s, and their split marks the end of an era.
