A controversial photograph of Brooke Shields as a young girl has been taken down from a London gallery after causing widespread outcry. The image showed a 10-year-old Shields, heavily made-up and naked and was due to go on show at the Tate Modern tomorrow. Police officers from the obscene publications unit met gallery bosses who decided to remove the image, entitled Spiritual America, on concerns it may break obscenity laws.
The work was a photograph of a photograph taken by Playboy publication Sugar’n'Spice in 1976, and in 1981, Brooke tried to suppres further use of the image. [Photo: Getty Images Entertainment]
