Good Morning America played more clips from Diane Sawyer‘s interview with Rihanna today, in which the star described what happened the night she was beaten by then-boyfriend Chris Brown. “I caught him in a lie,” she said, confirming the fight began over a text he’d received from another woman, “and he wouldn’t tell the truth…I couldn’t take that he kept lying to me, and he couldn’t take that I wouldn’t drop it…it was ugly.” As detailed in the police report, the ugliness quickly turned physical, with Brown punching her in the face and biting her shoulder.
Though she does not believe Brown planned to act on his threat to kill her (“I know he was saying it to scare me”), Rihanna denies that the violence went both ways. “I fended him off with my feet from one side of the car, but it was not like a fight with each other. I just really wanted it to stop.” A bystander eventually called 911 after hearing her screams. “It was not the same person that says ‘I love you.’ It was not those eyes,” she said. “He had no soul in his eyes. Just blank…there was no person when I looked at him.” The full interview airs tonight on ABC’s 20/20.
