Basketball great Kareem Abdul-Jabbar has been living with leukemia for almost a year, but has a very positive outlook. The former Lakers star told “Good Morning America” that last December he was diagnosed with Philadelphia chromosome-positive chronic myeloid leukemia, a rare cancer of the blood and bone marrow. Although initially taken aback by his diagnosis, Kareem’s prognosis is positive. “If I can do this as I’m told to do it, I can manage this,” Kareem said. He said he is speaking out now to show other patients that “they can prevail. They can continue a meaningful life,” he said. Fight on! [Source: ABC; Photo: Getty Images]
