Evan Chandler, whose son Jordan accused Michael Jackson (pictured with Jordan at the 1993 World Music Awards above) of sexual molestation in the early ’90s, was found dead in his Jersey City apartment earlier this month, the apparent victim of a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head. Though never charged, Jackson paid $20 million to the Chandlers for their silence on the matter. The family suffered numerous internal crises following the payoff, with Jordan getting a restraining order against his father in 2006 after the elder Chandler attacked him with a dumbbell.
“Over the years, [Evan] began to develop tremendous mood swings. He was always depressed,” a family member told the New York Post. Concerned with irate MJ fans, Chandler reportedly subjected himself to several surgical makeovers. He purchased the gun used in his suicide in the mid-90′s, after the former Beverly Hills dentist was beaten in a parking lot, an attack his family believes was committed by Jackson supporters. Authorities suspect Chandler was suffering from a serious illness at the time of his demise.
