Charlie Sheen pleaded not guilty in Aspen yesterday to felony menacing and misdemeanor assault charges stemming from his notorious Christmas row with wife Brooke Mueller, who told police the Two And A Half Men star held her down with a knife, threatening to kill her if she filed for divorce. Negotiations for a plea bargain reportedly collapsed over the severity of the charges—while the District Attorney reportedly did not seek jail time for the actor, Sheen refused to plead guilty to anything more than a misdemeanor.

With his trial not starting until July, Sheen will still finish up Two And A Half Men‘s seventh season, spending his nights in rehab. “Charlie is looking forward to going back to work for the final four episodes of Two and Half Men,” executive producer Mark Burg told People. “He’s also looking forward to clearing his name, putting all of this behind him and spending time with his kids during his hiatus.” Mueller remains in rehab herself, with Sheen reportedly planning to use his wife’s drug problems as proof of her unreliability as a witness.
