According to Variety, director Wes Craven and stars Neve Campbell, Courtney Cox Arquette and David Arquette will soon begin shooting Scream 4 for a scheduled release of April 2011. The return of the Scream isn’t that surprising—at this point it’s more unusual for a horror franchise not to be in progress—but what is bizarre about the resurrection of the smash hit ’90s chiller is that it’s not a Michael Bay-produced or Rob Zombie-directed remake of the original, but a sequel! With the original cast and director! More than a decade after the last one! And, yes, it will have been more than a decade since Scream 3—and therefore more than a decade since most people have seen Neve Campbell movie.
Not that this new movie won’t feature plenty of young flesh along aside the aging original actors—while the names of the new blood have yet to be announced, we wouldn’t be surprised if one of the surviving trio winds up killed before the credits even roll. How else will the producers make room for the snarky, sexed-up teenage adventures that made the series a hit in the first place? It’s supposed to be a chiller, not The Big Chill.
