Whitney Houston Postpones European Tour Opener After Illness

Whitney Houston has canceled her scheduled concert in Paris tonight—a show meant to kick off a two-month European tour. “Whitney is suffering from an upper respiratory infection and after a consultation with her doctors has been advised to postpone her performance,” a statement read on her site. “Whitney and her band apologize that the show has to be rescheduled on such short notice.” The tour will now hopefully begin in Manchester Thursday.

The singer really must be suffering, considering what passed for Whitney in good voice during a recent jaunt in Australia. Papers reported walkouts after shows in Sydney and Brisbane featured the sweaty, hoarse singer coughing through her classics (she didn’t look so hot leaving the country either). Considering it’s been more than a month since the fiasco down under, which a tour manager hilariously defended as “warts and all” (did he want to bring frogs to mind?) the idea that she’s even more under-the-weather probably isn’t making ticketholders enthusiastic. Will she make it through another continent in one piece?
