Christie Brinkley may say she had “tough love” for Alexa Ray Joel after her heartbreak-driven Aspirin overdose last year, but it doesn’t sound like she was too hard on her daughter with ex-husband Billy Joel. “Your job as a parent is to listen. And to dole out as much love as you can. That includes tough love,” she told People. “I told Alexa, ‘You got yourself worked into such a tizzy. You need to examine that, you need to seek professional advice.’” Aw man, here we got excited for some kind of extreme denial, and it turns out Christie just told her to see a shrink about her “tizzies.” Wouldn’t “tough love” have been not letting Alexa Ray do that goofy Prell ad? Oh right, fellow Prell spokesperson Christie had nothing to do with that happening! How did we forget?
Then again, it’s not like overdose on mild pain relievers suggests the need for anything more extreme than therapy. “She tried to do something dramatic to prove to her boyfriend how much he hurt her,” Brinkley said, claiming the flamboyant gesture wasn’t really a suicide attempt. “I think many people can relate to that excruciating pain of love gone wrong. I’d rather have a broken arm than a broken heart.”
