We love Prince‘s music, but there are some things the guy believes in that we just don’t. For instance: Jehovah, using numbers as shorthand, the color purple, and now his claim that the internet is “over”.
In an interview with the UK’s Daily Mirror, Prince said that he is releasing his latest album, 20Ten, for free as a giveaway, distributed in the hard copy version of the Mirror and that no digital copies would be made available. He explained “The internet’s completely over. I don’t see why I should give my new music to iTunes or anyone else. They won’t pay me an advance for it and then they get angry when they can’t get it.” Not holding back, he also took a jab at MTV, the network that made him famous and, thanks to his “When Doves Cry” video, made us aware that mirrors are fun. He said “The internet’s like MTV. At one time MTV was hip and suddenly it became outdated. Anyway, all these computers and digital gadgets are no good. They just fill your head with numbers and that can’t be good for you.” Unfortunately for Prince fans, this means there’s virtually no internet presence for the singer, as he’s taken down his own website and won’t allow YouTube to show any of his videos. We think if his Purpleness was exposed to the wonders of Cute Overload he just might think differently.
