Legendary actor Michael Caine once said “The best research for playing a drunk is being a British actor for 20 years.” Born Maurice Joseph Micklewhite, and the youngest Guinness Book of World Record Holder for “Most British Baby Name,” Michael Caine has given the world so much. Most importantly, his voice, which is as Michael Caine as anything else about the man.
On a new BBC 2 show that Americans will probably never get to see, comedians Rob Brydon and Steve Coogan star in The Trip, a loosely improvised road trip with the comedians playing versions of themselves as they tour various British dining establishments. It’s kind of like My Dinner with Andre, a movie we’ve never seen but one that also invokes eating food and talking.
This clip from the show is an awe-inspiring battle of Michael Caine impersonations that leaves one reeling. Who does the better impression? My money, and I mean ALL of my money, is on Brydon, who nails Caine’s range from 60s hipster to Dark Knight butler.
