We always figured that most celebrities, save for the reality show types and the celebutante starlets, enjoy their privacy. That’s why it’s so hard to believe the report that Meg Ryan, who just revealed that she’s dating John Mellencamp weeks after he announced his separation from Elaine Irwin, is reveling in this new attention. A source told PopEater “Meg couldn’t be happier,” a friend of the actress tells me. “Not only has she got a great new guy, she’s back in the headlines. It’s not easy going from being one of the highest paid actresses in the world to an anonymous New Yorker. Meg’s loving all this attention again.”
We have to call bulls—t on this source. Ryan has famously tried to ignore the limelight of Hollywood, and has said in the past “You figure out a way to walk around and not be noticed.” That doesn’t really sound like someone who is psyched to have people gawk at her new relationship. Her last few movies might have flopped, but we doubt that she’s looking to use her personal life as the way to catapult her into our sights again.
