According to the National Enquirer, Selena Gomez‘ parents are freaking out over the increasing lack of a purity ring on their daughter’s finger in public—especially now that Selena’s kissing Justin Bieber on yachts and stuff. “Selena got the ring at 12 and never took it off,” says their source. But when things started getting hot with Justin, suddenly she was wearing it less and less. Selena’s family thinks the world of Justin and isn’t opposed to them dating. But they’re very conservative people and they’d be heartsick if she did something with him that she’d later regret.” This is probably the part where Selena shrieks “Mom, you had me when you were sixteen! OMG, you’re such a hypocrite!”
The story’s more than a little specious—it’s been a long time since Selena’s worn a ring consistently in public—but considering the Facebook hacking and tweeted death threats Selena’s received over her relationship with Justin, gossip like this is just bound to piss the Beliebers off even more. If these guys are going to date, we’d recommend more precious photo ops at ice cream parlors and Teen Choice Awards and fewer amorous encounters poolside. Just saying.
