As you can guess by the above photo, Ricky Gervais isn’t ashamed of his vicious(ly funny) monologue at this year’s Golden Globes…or anything else. “I enjoyed the Globes more this year. I think I had better gags,” Gervais wrote on his blog, addressing the rumors that his hour-long disappearance mid-show was due to backstage drama. “Obviously the rumour that the organizers stopped me going out on stage for an hour is rubbish. I did every link I was scheduled to do. The reason why the gaps were uneven is because when I got the rundown I was allowed to choose who I presented to. I obviously chose the spots that I had the best gags for. They couldn’t move around the order but I could move around however I wanted.” So if you’re a celeb who didn’t get slammed on-stage by Gervais, congratulations—you’re boring!
Though confident that those who can take a joke were happy with his (“Thanks to the twitterverse, the blogosphere, all the journos and the coolest stars for coming to my rescue”), He did admit that the hoopla gave him pause. “Some reactions nearly had me believing I’d gone too far too. Nearly.” And though the Hollywood Foreign Press Association says the show “was among the best” (though some of his jokes “went too far”), Gervais told TMZ he probably won’t be back next year—“I think twice is enough.” Besides, how could he hope to top this year’s reaction?
