Liberal MSNBC commentator Keith Olbermann left his job as host of Countdown last week, and there’s been much speculation over who should replace him. Sure, it would make sense for someone with similarly left-leaning views to take over, but what pundit or journalist would fit the bill? Well, it may not be a journalist after all, it may just be NBC’s Vice President of East Coast Television and Microwave Oven Programming, Jack Donaghy, otherwise known as Alec Baldwin.
Baldwin has discussed his political aspirations before and has been very involved with the Democratic party. He has said in the past that politics “Is something that I’m very, very interested in,” but that “To quit (acting) now when it really feels good and doing it feels good would be an enormously difficult thing to do. However, I do believe that people want to believe that someone who deeply cares about the middle class…would like to seek public office.” A source at NBC told PopEater that Baldwin would be perfect for Olbermann’s spot because “He’s already part of the NBC family, has a huge fan base and is very respected for his long term passions for politics.” We’re not sure how we feel about this, mostly because we want 30 Rock to go on forever, but it seems like a good transition for Baldwin to get into politics if, God forbid, he does ever leave the sitcom and the acting world.
