Chris Brown was in court Friday for a probation progress report, and to ask a small favor: he’d like to have Rihanna‘s restraining order against him removed. “It makes it difficult at award shows and such,” said his lawyer. We’re a little confused, since it was reported in summer 2009 that the order allowed him to attend music industry functions she was at. A rep told TMZ that Chris Brown’s request had nothing to do with his Grammy nominations. “This court date and the lifting of the restraining order is part of the planned ongoing legal proceedings. The date was scheduled months ago. Chris Brown is very thankful for his Grammy nominations, but due to scheduling conflicts, he will not be attending the Grammys.”
Whatever the reason, Rihanna’s lawyer refused to OK the alteration until he spoke to the singer, and the matter will be settled at a future court date. Even if she agrees, Chris will still be on probation and will still be required to not “annoy” the ex-girlfriend he brutally beat the night before the 2009 Grammys. Judge Patricia Schnegg again complimented Brown on his completed anger management course and continued community service.
