No one on the planet except for a handful of jealous British 30-somethings remember when Kate Winslet weighed 200 lbs or was anything but a gorgeous Oscar-winner…except, of course, Kate herself. “I will tell you that when I was heavy,” Winslet told Glamour. “People would say to me—and it was such a backhanded compliment—they would say, ‘You’ve got such a beautiful face,’ in the way of, like, ‘Oh, isn’t it a shame that from the neck down you’re questionable.'” Winslet says she lost roles as a teen for being “too fat”, which makes us think she should take her millions of dollars and scrub the internet clean of any mention of her weight, rather than continually bringing it up. Isn’t that what being a famous person is all about?
Unfortunately, Winslet’s weight wasn’t the only thing that had her feeling like a failure in grade school. “…I was the kid who never won the races. I never jumped the highest. I wasn’t on the list of the high-achieving,” Kate said about her 2009 Best Actress win for The Reader. “That wasn’t me, so winning the Oscar was like winning all the prizes in one single night that I never won as a kid. For me, it was an internal-fist-pumping moment of yes.” Hmmm, call the woman fat and she’ll turn into a goddess, have her think she’s a loser and she’ll win an Academy Award. It’s almost like Winslet owes her former classmates a big thank you. We’ll sure they’ll be happy to hear it, right when she drops into her high school reunion in a diamond-encrusted helicopter.
